Spicy Green Peas

Spicy Green Peas

1 lb frozen green peas

10 small chopped green chilies (Small Hot Peppers) – 5 for mildly hot.
1 large onion, chopped
1 small chopped tomato
3 fresh garlic cloves, minced
1 inch cube fresh ginger finely chopped

½ teaspoon cumin seeds
½ teaspoon mustard seeds
¼ teaspoon turmeric
¼ teaspoon asafetida [Hing] – optional

1 teaspoon salt or according to your taste

1/4 cup Canola oil (or your choice of cooking oil)

2 Tablespoon chopped cilantro (optional)
2 Tablespoon grated fresh coconut (optional)

Heat up canola/veg oil in a frying pan on a medium high heat for 1 to 2 minutes.

When hot, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafetida, and turmeric. Stir.

Cover the pan as seeds start to pop out. Lower the heat to medium. Half minute
later add minced garlic. Stir well and then add chopped onion. Keep stirring.

A minute later add chopped tomato, ginger, green chilies. Give a good stir.

Three/four minutes later add green peas. Stir well until everything is mixed and add salt. Cover the pan for three minutes.

Add coconut and cilantro for garnish.

Serve with chapati [flat bread] and rice-daal.
