6 cups plain steamed/cooked rice [left over preferred]
Tip: Use previously cooked rice.
Gently rub the rice with fingers to break up the clumps.
1 large size onion – chopped
2 medium size green hot chili pepper – chopped
1/4 teaspoon turmeric
1/8 teaspoon red chili powder [optional]
1/8 teaspoon cumin seeds
1/8 teaspoon black mustard seeds
1 teaspoon salt [or according to your taste]
1/2 teaspoon sugar [optional]
1/4 cup vegetable oil
Heat oil over medium high heat for about one minute or till hot.
Add cumin seeds, and mustard seeds.
As soon as seeds start to sizzle add chopped onion. Stir.
Immediately add chopped hot green peppers. Stir well.
A minute later add turmeric and red chili powder.
Stir and mix the ingredients well.
Then add pre-cooked rice. Break rice lump if any, before adding it to the pan.
Add salt and sugar. Mix the ingredients well.
Cook for another minute and a half. Stir occasionally.
Turn off the heat.
